UPDATES

What a great time we had at the April Peas, Pies, and Tatties Dinner. Special thanks to all that worked in the kitchen inclduing Betty, Bob, Peter, Winnie, Gail, and so many others. We had almost everyone bringing a dish to share. This is what a community does. They come together to share their time, talents and (most importantly) themselves.

The new slate of officers is under the menu heading People / Offiers 2012 - 13. Have a look at who has stepped forward to make our SAS stronger. Bill is sitting in the chair again and he needs your support. VP Gail Burkett will be working with the Hospitality Group. This includes the monthly refresehments, dinners, restaurants, parties and the upcoming Children's Scottish Day. VP Joe Pillips has agreed to work with the both inside and outside activites. He is the go to person for Kirkings, Scottish Games, Monthly Programs, and the Burns Dinner, to name a few. Ann Phillips has agreed to stay on as our Recording Secretary. It is her task to keep an accurate history of what we as a Society do. Winnie Graham has agreed to serve as the Membership Chair and will endeavor to keep our membership growing and up-to-date. Gloria McCulloch has agreed to remain as the Society Treasurer and will strive to keep us both solvent and knowledgable about our finances. Fr. David Kennedy will remain as our Chaplin and take on the task of Outreach. We want to maintain contact with those that can not make meetings or have need of us as a society of friends. The Executive Council also includes all ex-Presidents as members. The Executive Council is the governing body of the Society and it is their task to both maintain the Society and help it grow.

We will begin our Summer Schedule a bit early this year. The May, June, & July meetings will be at restaurants. Watch this space and the Thistle for exact times and places. The August meeting will be a pot luck at the Church of the Holy Guardian Angels on 1325 Cardinal Lane, Lantana, Fl. At the August meeting we will go over the program for the coming year. If you are in town please plan to attend and let your voice be heard.

Last but not least we want to thank Scott Ladd for leading us this past year. We had a good year with attendance at the S. Florida Games, Burns Dinner, and many wonderful meetings. Take a few minutes and let Scott know you appreciate his work this past year. We also want to welcome the newest recepient of the Jack Gibb Award - Gail Griswold Burkett. Nice going Gail and justly deserved.

Between people paying their dues for 2012 - 13 and the meat pies we sold at the April meeting - Winnie says we took in a total of $342. Nice going Winnie.

WELCOME

The Scottish American Society of Palm Beach County was formed by Scottish immigrants and Americans of Scottish descent in February 1984. They came together to promote the study of Scotland's language, history, literature and music, and to support any movements favorable to the continuance of Scottish customs, sports, dancing, dress and the like. You are cordially invited to attend meetings and join with us in a celebration of all things Scottish.

The meetings are held at Lakeside Presbyterian Church:, 4601 S Flagler Dr, West Palm Beach, FL 33405. SASPBC meets on the third Friday evening at 7 PM of each month. If you have an interest in Scottish traditions, history and culture, a cup of tea and a hearty welcome awaits you.
